My husband and I started fostering in 2021, having come across a roadshow on fostering. As we're fond of children, we took this into consideration carefully, and prayerfully took the next step towards opening our home to adopting or fostering.
In our fostering journey, we've learnt that foster parents are just like other regular parents. There will be challenges, as the foster children are young, and they've never had anyone care for their emotional or physical needs before.
However, I've been blessed with an amazing spouse that steps in whenever he can to share the load. As foster parents, teamwork counts, and it's not just mum that's involved—dad plays a huge role as well.
In my family, my mum has been an amazing support too. She stays nearby and helps out whenever we ask. But as I have two other siblings who have children, I do not expect her to do more.
My younger sister, who is an infant care teacher, has always been there for me, teaching and sharing with me on how to handle children with her knowledge and tips.
If you have the capacity to share your love, open your door. I have always believed that this is a deed that God has destined for us. Your foster children will remember you for life. They need to be treasured and loved, and learn that they can have a better outcome despite their circumstances. They truly deserve a chance to be better.
