A FAMILY FOR
FOSTER FAMILIES
Home for Good, Singapore (HFG-SG) was started in 2013 by a group of foster parents who felt the heartbeat of God to take care of orphans, believing that every child deserves to be in a loving family. We believe that care within a family setting is more beneficial for vulnerable children and youth, as it offers them a nurturing and loving environment before they are reintegrated with their own families.
Inspired by the UK charity, Home for Good, we championed the same cause locally. Our informal peer network of foster parents and volunteers has been advocating for fostering and adoption in the Christian community in Singapore.
Since 2013, our network has been growing. Today we have over 250 members of various religious faiths and backgrounds, working with the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), appointed fostering agencies, child specialist centres, and other like-minded community partners to champion fostering and adoption.
Seeking to do more to resource foster parents, raise new foster parents, and to champion fostering and adoption in the community, we registered as a Singapore charity on 28 February 2023, and formalised our operations as a support network for foster parents.
About our Logo
The Home for Good Singapore (HFG-SG) logo shows how foster families can create loving environments simply by opening their hearts and their homes to children in need. Beyond that, the motif of a home also represents HFG-SG’s mission to be a family for foster families and provide them with a safe space to learn and ask for support.
Vision
A loving family for every child in need.
Mission
Make fostering and adoption a core ministry in the community.
Raise more foster parents to meet the needs of children and youths in out-of-home care.
Support families with children and youths in out-of-home care to eventually reunify these children and youths with their families; and
Support and resource foster parents.
Support
HFG-SG has over 250 members supporting each other in our fostering journey. We share tips and resources in peer support groups.
Foster parents can offer respite care, and befrienders and volunteers help to organise activities for foster families.
We have smaller peer support groups for specialised topics: children with special needs, adoption, youths who have aged out-of-care, and overseas out-of-home care.
Advocate
As an advocate for the needs of vulnerable children and youths, we champion fostering through co-hosting fostering information sessions in partnership with fostering agencies: Boys’ Town Fostering Services, Epworth Foster Care, Gracehaven Fostering, Muhammadiyah Association and PPIS Oasis.
We speak to the media, corporations, and at community events to raise awareness of fostering and befriending families-in-need.
We also assist in finding foster families for children from partner agencies, the Ministry of Social and Family Development, and Child Protection Specialist Centres when needed.
Inform
With a large network of members, you don’t have to feel alone in your fostering journey. We want to empower you with the knowledge and collective wisdom from members in the network. Cut through the big words and red tape to hear from a foster family right beside you.
By being a curator of stories and tips from foster parents and volunteers, we aspire to be an information resource to encourage other foster parents to share their journey openly.
PEER SERVICES
We partner with the following movements to enhance the lives of foster families and vulnerable youths who have aged out-of-care, so that there are more resources available to support those who need it most.
PARTNERS
We work with partners to support and strengthen the foster system in Singapore.
