BE A VOLUNTEER
Foster families will always need support. As the work of building up a fostering community cannot be done alone, our community of Befrienders play a big supporting role.
Befrienders are part of "Befrienders for Families" (BFF), a programme co-developed by The Salvation Army and HFG-SG to help children reunify with their families after removal by Child Protective Service (CPS).
BFF aims to build a community of Befrienders for vulnerable families, with a child-centric lens, to provide flexible and holistic support to families through the continuum of care.
Befrienders can help in the following ways:
BFF Cares
Befriending caregivers
Befriending children
Grocery runs
Home improvements
Tutoring
Respite child mentoring
BFF Gives
Giving groceries
Giving furniture
Volunteering to provide repair services
Providing educational material for children
Volunteers must reside in Singapore and be at least 21 years old, a team-player, be adaptable and open-minded, and commit for 18 months (for BFF Cares). Training will be provided. BE A FOSTER PARENT
Foster parents are at the heart of the HFG-SG community. They are married couples who have committed to meeting a vulnerable child’s needs, and providing shelter, food, love, education, security and opportunities to play and interact with other children.
Foster parents need to meet the following criteria:
- Residents of Singapore
- Married and apply jointly as a couple
- At least 25 years old
- Medically fit to care for children
Foster parents will be given a monthly fostering allowance to meet the needs of the child. There are also childcare and student care subsidies. Healthcare subsidies cover medical treatment at public healthcare institutions. Foster children also receive subsidies at participating CHAS General Practitioners and dental clinics.
Furthermore, regular support, training, and advice will be provided through Foster Care Workers with home visits and telephone calls.
